PBS New Practitioner Group: Getting Comfortable with the uncomfortable- Presented by Rachel Hardcastle

Mar 06, 2026

This presentation supports new Behaviour Support Practitioners to build confidence in navigating the inherent discomfort of behaviour support work, including risk, uncertainty, strong emotions, and complex ethical conversations. It focuses on understanding and clearly explaining the role of the Behaviour Support Practitioner to participants, families, and providers, particularly when expectations, fear, or frustration are present. The session explores how to sit with distress, hold professional boundaries, and communicate purpose, scope, and limitations of behaviour support in a calm, transparent, and values-based way. Through practical scenarios, practitioners learn how to stay grounded, reflective, and compassionate while maintaining safety, dignity, and least-restrictive practice in challenging situations.
