This webinar provides Behaviour Support Practitioners with a clear, practical introduction to trauma-informed care and its critical role in ethical, effective behaviour support. It explores how experiences of trauma can shape behaviour, emotional regulation, communication, and responses to support, particularly for people with disability and complex support needs. The session will unpack the core principles of trauma-informed practice—safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment—and translate them into day-to-day behaviour support practice, including assessment, formulation, and plan development. Practitioners will learn how to recognise trauma-related presentations, avoid re-traumatisation, and design proactive strategies that prioritise dignity, emotional safety, and quality of life while remaining aligned with NDIS expectations and positive behaviour support frameworks.
