About Elise

Elise Smeets is an experienced occupational therapist and clinical educator with over 16 years of expertise across acute rehabilitation, community practice, and clinical leadership. As Head of Clinical Development – New Graduates at Optimum Health Solutions, Elise designs and delivers structured education and mentorship programs that build the capability, confidence, and clinical reasoning skills of emerging health professionals.

Her clinical background spans both paediatric and adult rehabilitation, with extensive experience in functional capacity and living assessments, assistive technology, and evidence-based intervention planning.

Elise is highly skilled in developing tailored therapy programs, supporting NDIS reporting and compliance, and promoting best-practice multidisciplinary collaboration.

Alongside her leadership role, Elise serves as a Sessional Academic at the Australian Catholic University, where she has taught and supervised occupational therapy students across all year levels in both face-to-face and online settings. Her teaching philosophy centres on bridging the gap between theory and practice, empowering clinicians to apply research-informed approaches in real-world contexts.
