Mind Over Matter: Enhancing Balance Through Cognitive Training - Presented by Jess Graham

Oct 14, 2025

Cognitive training is emerging as a powerful tool in improving balance and reducing fall risk, particularly in populations with neurological or age-related impairments. This presentation explores the dynamic interplay between cognitive function - such as attention, executive control, and dual-tasking—and postural stability. By integrating cognitive exercises into physical rehabilitation, allied health professionals can target the neural mechanisms that underpin both movement and mental processing. Evidence shows that dual-task training, and task-specific cognitive drills can significantly enhance balance outcomes, especially in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease, stroke, or mild cognitive impairment. This session will highlight practical strategies, assessment tools, and collaborative approaches to embedding cognitive training into balance-focused interventions for optimal functional gains.
